Another 42.2 Km Jog In The Park
After incurring an ITB injury during the Milo Marathon 2011 (which I finished despite of limping), I never thought that I'd be able to run 42.195 km again.
The recovery took a long time; and from July'11, I was only able to run a 21 km race after almost 1 year. However, the full Mary did not appeal to me despite the fact that I was painless for the first half of 2012.
Then mid-last year, a friend started running, and I tagged along. During that time, I gave running a second chance. That moment coincided with the time that my father passed away. I took to running as a way to distract myself-- as a form of motivation, I signed up for the Condura Skyway. Afterwards, it was all training from November to January.
I never considered hitting a PR in that race. All I wanted to do was assure myself that I can finish this.
And I did.
The time may not be that good for one with a competitive mindset-- 5 hours plus. But it's okay-- I finished strong and pain-free-- And I'm definitely proud of it.
I'm confident that I am back to where I left off prior to the 2011 injury, when I was sure that I can hit sub-5 hours-- if the unforeseen didn't happen. MILO BABAWIAN KITA!
This medal is dedicated to my friends I've had the chance to run with and those who run.
Salamat sa inspirasyon!
